Drewry's evaluation of the World Container Index shows that last week, on all routes from Asia, the seaborne spot freight rate of major container transactions in east-west direction rose sharply, especially the freight increase in Asia-Europe route was particularly strong.
Drewry pointed out: "The freight rates of all routes from Asia have increased significantly." Freight rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam rose by 30% to $1,560 per 40-foot box, and freight rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles rose by 12%. To $1,569, freight from Shanghai to New York rose by $130 to $2,026 a 40-foot container.
