On October 30, 2015, Shanghai customs subordinate to chongming customs held a switching ceremony. The original office of Shanghai customs in chongming became subordinate to chongming customs, realizing the transformation from regional customs to port customs.

The switch operation of chongming customs will play a greater role in the development of export-oriented economy in chongming county of Shanghai and the opening up of changxing island port operation area.

Shanghai chongming customs, formerly known as the office of Shanghai customs in chongming, was established in 1996, mainly responsible for customs clearance of import and export business, enterprise registration, processing trade supervision and other businesses.

Since its establishment, the Yangtze river delta region has vigorously promoted economic and cultural exchanges with the outside world.

After the switch operation of haichongming customs, the original regional customs has been transformed into port customs. Besides retaining the original functions, haichongming customs undertakes new responsibilities such as port entry and exit supervision, and is newly responsible for the actual supervision of inbound and outbound goods in changxing island operation area (east coast of changxing island) and the ship supervision in chongming area.
